We had our first meeting again since Covid on July 27 at Kids Like Us Community Learning Center in Bristol TN. Guest speaker Attorney Michael Braun from The Gallini Group joined us and shared a wealth of information. A big thank you for his time and expertise! Thank you again to our team member Lisa for letting us have the meeting in their new building that's still being renovated. Can't wait until it is finished! It's a great place for older kids and children on the spectrum.
Our second meeting was on August 17th. A big thank you to our team members at the Jeremiah School for the use of their building and to the families that joined us live and online! Thanks again to Dr. Steven Love from the Olsen Huff Center in Asheville NC for being available even though we had a bad storm (Fred) he was still able to be with us live via Zoom!
We had an amazing time at the Autism Conference in Pigeon Forge TN July 30-31 and even meet Temple Grandin! Joshua was so excited to have his picture taken with her! We meet a lot of amazing professionals that work in the autism communities and very exited to get their input!
I want to remind everyone that this is a team and none of us know everything. Together we can share what we do know and help each other grow stronger together! Most of you already know that I have two children on the spectrum. I've had a lot of IEP meeting questions (tis the season) and evaluation questions on the Kingsport Autism Support Group Facebook page lately. I feel like we've been able to help the families find the answers and move forward.
That is what this group is about! We would like for this group to be full of professionals, support groups and families that support all the neurodiverse in our communities. If you want your group or helpful link to be added to the website we are currently working on the resources page so everyone's linked together. Email Support@neurodiversityteam.com to have any useful information that has helped you listed.
Thank you to Bays Mountain Park for hosting our upcoming event Saturday August 28 the kids should have a great time with all the activities planned. We understand also that some kids may not want to join in all of the activities. That's absolutely fine just feel free to enjoy the park. We look forward to meeting more of you!
I wanted to mention we are planning a picnic/cookout before it gets colder weather and would love to have group members involved in the planning. We are looking at locations Warriors Path Park in Kingsport TN is on the list. Steele Creek Park in Bristol TN has come because of "no fishing license required" or we could do a separate fishing day for the kids? We are brainstorming ideas and would love any input on meeting topics or professionals you would like to hear speak or group activities.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Can't wait for the Bays Mountain day. The picnic is a great idea, I have plenty of fishing poles to share. 🐟🐠👍🎣
